As models, we love the runway as well as the energy backstage.
Did you know that runway shows are important for many reasons, and not just because we get to walk in them?!
Runway shows set the scene for the upcoming season. They’re the first glimpse of the next trends to watch. Buyers get the opportunity to place orders for the next run, the media gets to report on what’s hot, and the public get a heads up as to what they should start saving or!
The designs showcased by upmarket labels on the runway influence the high street. Mainstream brands are quick to copy and produce similar looks. This practice is known as fast fashion. While this sometimes leads to copycat disputes, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
We’re big on the idea that fashion is art, and designers often showcase extravagant and innovative designs on the runway. Of course, these designs are often toned down when they hit the stores to ensure they are practical and functional for the everyday person. Sadly, we can’t all dress like Lady Gaga when we go to the mall.
Fashion mirrors society’s culture and interests. We think that it’s inspiring and empowering when designers bring attention to social and political issues through their shows.
Thanks to the cyclic nature of fast fashion, runway shows influence what we wear on a daily basis whether we realise it or not. Whether we’re off to work, heading out to socialise or going to the gym, there’s definitely a designer or two out there we should be giving thanks to!
If there are any shows you’ve walked in or seen that are particularly memorable to you, we’d love you to share them with us.
